It’s with heavy hearts that we learned that the inimitable Genesis P-Orridge died on March 14, 2020, after being diagnosed with leukemia in October, 2017. In 2008, while promoting his new CD, Mr Alien Brain vs The Skinwalk, he spoke with SG contributor Tamara Palmer. His comments on the U.S. healthcare system seem particularly prescient at this time:

Most of the countries in Europe have had universal health care for decades and they’ve survived very healthily in the economy. When you want to know what’s going on, look for the vested interests. And it’s clear that pharmaceutical companies, the doctors’ associations, the hospitals, the health insurance companies none of them want universal health care. They’re able to just blackmail and extort huge sums of money out of the current situation, why would they want it to change?

The Clintons tried to bring in universal health care and they were shot down almost immediately. There’s this huge inertia from these lobbyists and the corporations who just think in terms of their own profits and not the wellbeing of the nation. And that’s going to be a real problem in the United States. It shocks me that when people talk about having health insurance for everyone, a lot of people that you wouldn’t expect go, “Well, that’s communism! That’s socialism!” What? That’s humanism! That’s a precious gift that a government can give to its people, housing and health care. There has to be a huge rethink.

“I had no deathly ambition to become super famous. I just want to work. I want to be able to put a roof over my head, and make great films, and also create a path for me to make movies as a director.”

Friendship and a strong work ethic are core values for Sarah Connor Chronicles star Lena Headey. The Bermuda-born actress, who was raised in the working-class town of Huddersfield in the North of England, has come a long way, but she remains very down to earth.

Since her film debut opposite Jeremy Irons in Waterland back in 1992, Headey has built up a lengthy list of credits. Her breakout role didn’t arrive until 2006 however, when she played the heroic Queen of Sparta in director Zack Snyder‘s highly stylized retelling of the story of the Spartan’s epic battle with Persia. Having worked to protect her husband, the King of Sparta, in 300, Headey was then called on to protect her on-screen son, John Connor, from the Terminator in The Sarah Connor Chronicles.

While working on the Fox TV series, Headey forged a close bond with special effects guru Robert Hall (whose credits also include Buffy, Angel and Pineapple Express) and his partner in slime, producer and actress Bobbi Sue Luther. So when Robert and Bobbi decided to branch out and make their own blood and guts genre horror flick, Headey was more than happy to jump on board.

Though made on a beyond-low budget that was supplemented by friends and favors, Laid To Rest, which was the first film to be shot on Panasonic’s new HPX-3000 high-def DV camcorder, has a polished analog look despite its bargain digital price tag. Shot on location at a deserted psychiatric hospital in Maryland, the film exemplifies the DIY methodology of Hollywood’s next generation filmmakers.

With Season 2 of Sarah Connor coming to a close, and the fate of a follow up season still hanging in the balance, Headey ultimately hopes to join their ranks. Over the past couple of years, during downtime on the SCC set, the actress worked on her own project, which she describes as a “quirky ensemble comedy.” Having penned and prepped it, and with The Chronicles behind her for the time being, she now hopes to direct and produce it. If all goes Headey’s way, she’ll soon be the one making calls to friends for favors.

I caught up Headey while she was enjoying a rare moment of rest, surrounded by her dogs, on the couch at her Los Angeles home. [..]

"For Your Consideration" Trailer from Patrick Green on Vimeo.

The life-sized statue, which appeared on Hollywood’s Walk of Fame in time for the 90th Academy Awards earlier this year, took aim at Harvey Weinstein and the culture of cover up that allowed sexually predatory and abusive behavior — as brought to task by the #MeToo movement — to permeate Tinsel Town on a massive scale.

“Casting Couch” by Plastic Jesus and Ginger

The event, which runs from 7.30 til 9.30 PM at LA’s Downtown Independent, and will include a panel discussion after the screening with artists Plastic Jesus and Ginger, #MeToo activist Dawn Dunning, and filmmaker Patrick Green. About Brendon Small / Dethklok

Brendon Small – the mastermind behind massive metal band Dethklok and albums The Dethalbum (the highest-charting death metal album ever on the Billboard Top 200 chart), Dethalbum II, Dethalbum III and Metalocalypse: The Doomstar Requiem — has been teasing a new chapter of his popular Galaktikon saga for months. After spending the past two years writing and recording new material and dropping random hints throughout the media and at appearances, the wait is over.

This year, marking the 10 year anniversary of his breakout Dethklok release, The Dethalbum, Brendon Small will reveal his upcoming high-stakes intergalactic extreme rock/metal album, Galaktikon II: Become The Storm, to the masses. The album will be released via physical and digital retailers on August 25, 2017 (Megaforce Records/MRI), with digital pre-orders set to become available Friday, June 2.

Galaktikon II: Become The Storm follows the space-age theme of 2012’s original Galaktikon album, with a conceptual storyline and a heavier, darker, more brutal sound. In addition to Brendon Small on vocals and guitar, the new album will feature acclaimed musicians and Dethklok alum Bryan Beller (bass/The Aristocrats, Dweezil Zappa, Steve Vai) and Gene Hoglan (drums/Testament, Death, Dark Angel). Galaktikon II: Become The Storm was co-produced by Small and Grammy-nominated producer/engineer Ulrich Wild, who also worked behind the board on the Dethklok albums.

With these names behind the project, it should come as no surprise that Galaktikon II: Become The Storm is a welcomed transformation and expansion of the sound that put Brendon Small on the musical map. With uncapped time and creativity on their side, Small & Co. were able to reach above and beyond what fans have come to expect as of now. Galaktikon II: Become The Storm proves to be Small’s most commanding release yet.

“This record is a combination of all the sounds I’ve been making throughout my creative life,” says Brendon Small. “It’s as heavy as I want it to be and melodic as I want it to be — it’s the bigger, darker record I wanted to hear. And what a way to celebrate my 10 year anniversary of making metal with Gene, Bryan and Ulrich, some of the best in the industry. I’m excited to have it live inside listeners’ heads and let their imaginations take over!”

Fans should anticipate plenty of early tidbits, such as track leaks and videos, leading up to the release of Galaktikon II: Become The Storm, so stay tuned!

Elsewhere in the universe of Brendon Small, Albatross Funnybooks recently announced GALAKTIKON!, a six-issue series of comic books launching this August based on the original Galaktikon album. The series will be written by Brendon Small and five-time Eisner Award winner and Albatross founder Eric Powell. Powell will also be contributing cover art with interior art by Steve Mannion of Fearless Dawn and Spook House. More details coming soon!

About Ben Hazlewood

Ben Hazlewood is a fiercely independent singer and songwriter who has the experience of someone twice his age, and a broad love of music that makes his own something timeless and wholly distinctive amidst a sea of aspiring voices.

Hazlewood’s EP, Vanta, was released on June 3rd, 2016 and featured the singles “Wanted” and “Paint Me Black ft. Mali Koa Hood”. Tracks from the EP were also featured in a series of live recordings from Ocean Way in Nashville which earned Hazlewood the acclaim of “one of the best vocal performances of the entire decade” from PopDust.

Ben’s follow up EP, EOS, premiered on Purevolume on May 4th, 2017. The Australia-based singer views the two EPs as a collective album.

“Eos is the Greek goddess of dawn. The theme behind these two EPs is it’s always darkest before the dawn,” says Hazlewood. “The instrumentals and lyrics throughout Eos highlight the hope and peace in an otherwise dark and desperate place. There is always some light to hold on to no matter how faint it is.”
